Creating Self-Organized Learning Environments-SOLE

Description: SOLE PD for Grades K-12: A Self-Organized Learning Environment, or SOLE, can exist anywhere there is a computer, Internet connection, and students who are ready to learn. Within a SOLE, students are given the freedom to learn collaboratively using the Internet. SOLE sessions are characterized by discovery, sharing, spontaneity and limited teacher intervention. Every SOLE session activates the learners’ creativity, requires critical thinking, and refines communication skills. Culturally Responsive Pedagogy

Description: Teachers will learn about Culturally Responsive Pedagogy and how it affects their classrooms. The growing popularity of Culturally Responsive pedagogy in schools is creating a change of instruction turning traditional classrooms into multicultural classrooms. This change is affecting general and gifted education classrooms. Culturally Responsive pedagogy will challenge teachers to change the way they view their students, and how they deliver the content to their students. Having teachers gain an understanding and appreciation of their students’ cultures and their practices and incorporating aspects of those cultures into the classroom Participants will have the option to complete up to 7 hours of gifted professional development with this course.

Description: This independent study is for teachers who have already taking the Introduction to WEPS course. During this time, participants will *be given time to fill out the Gooogle form for each gifted student in their class for the 2019-20 school year. * be given guidance and support from gifted coordinators. Participants should bring their roster of students along with any preliminary performance measures(ex: MAP scores, Ohio State Test results, end-of course ratings) or anecdotal notes to document current levels of academic and/or social/emotional functioning that may help them develop yearly goals.
Writing WEPS - Introduction to WEPS

Description: Writing WEPS - Grades K-12 Gifted PD Participants will: * learn state-required elements of a gifted WEP, * compose annual WEP goals for the gifted students they serve, * gain access to a Google doc of sample WEP goals for reference, * be given time to begin writing WEPs with guidance from gifted coordinators. Participants should bring their roster of students along with any preliminary fall performance measures (ex: MAP scores, spring 2018 Ohio State Test results, spring 2018 end-of course ratings) or anecdotal notes to document current levels of academic and/or social/emotional functioning to help them develop yearly goals.
